The Burrell Collection
The Burrell Collection is a free museum in Pollok where families can explore a large international collection through interactive and digital displays, family trails and changing galleries. It is an indoor-led visit with cafés, picnic spaces and strong family facilities. Pollok Park is an optional outdoor extension, separate from museum admission.

Our family take
Family trails and interactive displays give children something to try between the galleries. You can keep the visit short, bring a picnic, or continue into Pollok Park without paying for museum entry. It works best when adults are happy to follow their children’s interests and change direction when attention fades.
- Free museum, paid extras. Museum entry is free and donations are welcome. Parking, food, the shop and optional activities are separate costs.
- Shuttle out of service. The Pollok Park shuttle is currently out of service. Plan for the walk through the park and check for updates before relying on it.
- Family fit. Keep toddler visits short and flexible. Choose somewhere else if your children mainly want a play centre or a guaranteed organised activity.

- Parking and public transport
- Reach the Burrell car park via Pollok Avenue, avoiding the restricted Knowehead Avenue route. Charges are £1.50 per hour for 1–3 hours, £7 up to 4 hours and £12 for 5–8 hours, charged Monday–Sunday 10am–6pm. Blue Badge holders park free with their badge displayed; spaces are not guaranteed. Check current charges before travelling.
- Shuttle and station walk
- The Pollok Park shuttle is currently out of service. Pollokshaws West station is less than five minutes from the park entrance, then there is a further walk through the park to the museum.

Trails, displays and family fit
What children can do
Start with a downloadable family trail, such as I SPY or Animals at the Burrell, then let children choose which objects and rooms deserve more time. Interactive screens, films and immersive displays give you stopping points between the galleries.
The collection includes art, ancient objects, armour and textiles. You do not need to follow one route or see everything: a few favourite objects and a trail can be enough for younger children.
Best ages and family fit
Toddlers can enjoy a short trail with an adult, while older children may want to spend longer with particular cultures, objects or stories. This is a museum visit with things to try, so it works best when adults are ready to talk, look and follow their children’s interests.
Family and early-years sessions can give younger children an activity to join, but dates and age bands change. Check the current programme if a session is the reason for your visit.
Trails, displays and changing objects
The collection has 9,000 objects spanning 6,000 years, but objects rotate and not everything is on display at the same time. If a particular object, temporary display or family activity matters to your visit, check the live listing before you go. It may not be on display or running that day.
Buggies, baby facilities and sensory support
The museum has a step-free entrance and lifts to all three floors. Baby changing, baby-feeding space in the quiet room, accessible toilets and two Changing Places toilets help with feeding, changing and different access needs.
Ask at reception for access to the quiet room or to borrow a sensory bag with ear defenders and tactile toys. A visual storyboard is available to help you prepare. Popular displays and events can still feel busy, so leave room for a calmer break.
Food, picnics and time in Pollok Park
Food, picnics and Pollok Park
You can buy food at the restaurant or two coffee stops, or bring your own for one of five indoor picnic areas. Water fountains, baby feeding space and indoor seating make it possible to pause without leaving the building.
Pollok Park can make this a longer day as a separate outdoor walk. Add it if the weather and your children's energy suit more time outside.
How long to spend
Make the visit as short or as long as suits your family. A trail loop can be enough for younger children; stay longer for more displays, food or an optional Pollok Park walk if everyone still has energy.
Parking and getting to the museum
Use Pollok Avenue for the Burrell car park and avoid the restricted Knowehead Avenue turn that navigation apps may suggest. The Riverside car park at Pollok House has a separate approach via Lochinch Road. National Trust membership does not give free parking in the Burrell car park.
Pollokshaws West station is less than five minutes from the park entrance, with a further walk to the museum. Buses 57/57A, 3 and 34/34A serve the area. With the shuttle currently out of service, allow for walking through the park, especially with tired toddlers or anyone who finds longer walks difficult.
The Burrell, Kelvingrove or Riverside?
Choose the Burrell for free interactive museum time, family trails and the option of Pollok Park. Kelvingrove is stronger if your family wants a broader mix of animals, aircraft, art and history in the city, while Riverside is the clearer choice for vehicles, transport and recreated streets.
All three can work as flexible indoor stops. The surrounding day differs, with the Burrell pairing with Pollok Park, Kelvingrove with the West End, and Riverside with the Clyde waterfront.
