Dalbeattie
The easy Birch Trail winds through mossy woodland with granite sculptures and places to rest. It gives families a shorter forest outing, alongside the wider walking and mountain-biking routes at Dalbeattie.
Before you go
For the walking trails, use Town Wood car park, which is separate from the 7stanes bike car park. The one-mile Birch Trail is wide gravel with gentle slopes and some short moderate sections. Several mountain-bike sections are closed or diverted after wind damage, including Ironhash between posts 69 and 70/71, Road to Nowhere, Spooky Wood II and the section between posts 76 and 83. Follow current diversions. Parking charges apply. Check for ticks after your visit and remove them promptly.
