If your children enjoy switching between different activities, Dalscone gives you plenty of ways to change the pace. You can stick with soft play or, when the Farm Park is open, break it up with animals and outdoor play.

- Dalscone is closed for maintenance from 7–18 September 2026, with reopening planned for Saturday 19 September. Check before travelling.
- Indoor soft play
- The soft play and Dalscone Diner are open Monday to Saturday, 9.15am–5pm, all year. They’re closed on Sundays.

What children will enjoy
Should you choose soft play or the full Farm Park?
If you just want an easy indoor play session—or the Farm Park is closed—the soft play is the simpler choice. There’s a separate toddler area as well as the bigger frame, so younger and older children have their own space.
Go for the Farm Park if you want more of a day out. Children can move between the animals, outdoor activities and soft play, which is useful if they tire of one thing quickly. It makes more sense when you have a bit more time and the weather is decent.
What ages get the most from Dalscone?
Under-fours have their own indoor area, plus younger-child equipment outdoors when the Farm Park is open. That makes it easier to let them play in short bursts and then wander over to see the animals.
Ages four to eleven get the most choice, including the bigger soft-play frame, climbing, go-karts, mini golf and animals. Teenagers may find it a bit young unless they’re keen on the animals or happy to join younger siblings.
Animals, play and paid extras
There’s a mix of familiar farm animals and more unusual animals in the exotic house, which is handy if one child is animal-mad and another mostly wants to play. As with any animal visit, some animals may be resting or out of view.
Be ready for a few extra costs. Bumper boats, tractors, motorised vehicles, amusements and animal feed may cost extra or use tokens, so check what your ticket includes before you promise anything.

- The indoor area combines a toddler zone with a larger multi-level frame, pedal go-karts, playhouses and a vehicle-play area. Socks are required for children using soft play.
- Outdoor play
- The seasonal Farm Park lists climbing and toddler play frames, an aerial glider, Cresta Run, sand play, go-karts, mini golf, family games and bumper boats. Availability can vary.
- Animals
- Families can visit farm animals and an exotic animal house. The operator lists reptiles, insects, armadillos, porcupines, monkeys and axolotls among the wider collection.

Prams, accessibility and booking
The Farm Park is described as suitable for prams and wheelchairs, but the published information is quite general. If slopes, surfaces, doorways or transfers matter to your family, contact Dalscone before booking.

Food, toilets and baby facilities
You can buy sandwiches, jacket potatoes, paninis, cakes, ice cream, snacks and drinks at Dalscone Diner. Farm Park visitors can also bring a picnic, while café tables are reserved for café customers.
Parking is free, and there are handwashing stations around the Farm Park. If you need to know about toilets, baby changing or accessible toilets before you go, contact Dalscone before booking.
- Hygiene after animals
- Handwashing stations are provided throughout the Farm Park. Use them after animal areas and before eating.
Weather and making more of the visit
The soft play is open all year from Monday to Saturday, but the Farm Park is seasonal. If the animals and outdoor activities are the main reason you’re going, check the Farm Park dates before you set off—especially if the weather looks poor.
Take clothes for outdoor play even if you plan to use the soft play too. Some outdoor activities may not be running on the day, so it’s best not to promise a favourite until you’ve checked.
When another visit is a better choice
Dalscone may not be the best fit if you’re visiting mainly with teenagers, need detailed access information before paying, or want every activity included in the ticket price.
If you’d rather have a shorter, quieter stop, Caerlaverock Castle is an alternative south of Dumfries. It’s probably better kept for a separate day unless your children still have plenty of energy.
