Our family take

GoMA works well as a short indoor stop during a Glasgow city-centre day, especially if your children enjoy looking at art. For a visit built around making something together, aim for Saturday Art Club. Toddlers may prefer a brief look around; families wanting lots of hands-on exhibits have more choice at Kelvingrove.

  • Choose the right session. Saturday Art Club is drop-in. Art for Baby needs advance booking; its linked listing was sold out on 3 November 2026.

A little more detail

Make it work for your family

Art to look at and art to make

The four galleries show paintings, sculpture, installations, video and digital art. Displays change, so check the exhibitions before choosing a visit around a particular artist or artwork.

Saturday Art Club runs in the rooftop studio from 10.30am to 12.30pm. It is free and drop-in, with materials provided for activities such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printing and collage. It is recommended for families with children aged five to 12; that guidance applies to the workshop, not an age limit for the whole gallery.

The current event listing runs on Saturdays through 19 December 2026. Check the event page for exceptions and later dates. Wear clothes you do not mind getting messy.

For babies who are not yet walking, Art for Baby brings a baby and carer together for gallery time and simple art projects in the rooftop studio. These free sessions run on selected Fridays and require advance booking through Eventbrite. The linked booking page was sold out when checked on 3 November 2026, so check future dates before planning your visit around it.

Buggies, access and a comfortable visit

A ramp at the front entrance bypasses three steps. Inside, lifts give prams and wheelchair users access to all public areas, including the rooftop studio. Use the AccessAble guide for ramp and lift dimensions, and contact the gallery if a particular route or lift is essential for your visit.

Glasgow Life provides an autism-friendly visual storyboard for GoMA. It is dated March 2018, so use it to prepare for the building and ask the gallery about current displays if sound, light or a quieter visit will affect your plans.

Build it into a city-centre day

Royal Exchange Square puts the gallery close to the city-centre train and Subway stations. Public transport can save you arranging parking for a short visit; if you drive, choose a car park and check its charges separately.

For outdoor time afterwards, Glasgow Green is a city-centre walk away, so allow for the weather and the children’s energy. Kelvingrove is a larger museum alternative in the West End and needs a separate journey.
