If your children are already curious about Nessie, this gives them an hour of stories, films and evidence to argue over afterwards. A guide takes you through eight rooms in the old Drumnadrochit Hotel, now called Loch Ness Experience. The tour is indoors, with dark rooms and loud effects; it is a stronger choice for school-age children than for toddlers who need to run about.
Choose it for a short, weatherproof stop on a Loch Ness day, especially if the monster story is what brought your children here. You will hear about sightings and the searches behind them, then decide what you believe. Leave room in the day for lunch or an outdoor stop afterwards.

A little more detail
There is no minimum age, although the attraction suggests children older than six may get the most from it. The Nessie Hunter activity pack gives children something to follow as they go through the rooms.
This is a guided visit built around listening, watching and looking at real artefacts. With mixed-age siblings, think about whether your youngest will be happy to stay with the group for nearly an hour. A free toddler ticket does not necessarily make it the right outing for them.

The darker rooms and loud effects can be difficult for a child who dislikes those settings, particularly when it is busy. Ask the team about your child’s needs before committing to tickets; a rainy-day option still needs to feel comfortable once you are inside.
Wheelchair users can access all areas used for the tour. Most visitors stand, but chairs are available if you tell the team at the start. A transcript can be requested on arrival, and assistance dogs are welcome. Eligible accompanying carers have free admission; arrange this directly with the attraction.

The attraction is in Drumnadrochit on the A82, around 20 minutes’ drive from Inverness in normal traffic. Stagecoach’s number 17 links Inverness and Drumnadrochit; check the timetable for both directions before choosing your tour time.
Plan a meal in the village before or after the tour. Large bags, suitcases and luggage cannot be brought inside, and there is no storage, so this needs planning if you are arriving by bus with holiday bags.

Urquhart Castle gives you ruins and loch views outdoors; a cruise takes you onto the water. Both are separate outings with their own tickets, travel and time to allow. A standard indoor-tour ticket does not cover either.
Choose one extra if the children still have energy, rather than trying to fit every Loch Ness stop into the afternoon. For a wet day, you can keep this as a short indoor visit and leave the exposed castle outing for better weather.
