Stirling · Cultural
Macrobert Arts Centre brings family theatre and cinema to the University of Stirling campus. Choose a show or film that suits your child's age and interests, then plan around its start time. It can work well for an indoor outing, with pram parking, baby changing and sensory support at the venue.
Choose Macrobert when your child would enjoy watching a story on stage or screen and you want an outing with a clear start and finish. If they need to move around throughout the visit, a self-paced day out may be easier, or look for an event specifically labelled relaxed.

The programme changes, so choose a family show for its story and recommended ages rather than assuming every performance suits younger children. For cinema, check the film certificate as well as the running time. A child's interest in the story matters as much as their age.
Most visits involve watching from a seat. For a child who struggles with a dark room, loud sound or staying still, look for a relaxed event and check what adjustments it offers. A relaxed label applies to that event, not the whole programme.

Some events have reserved seats and others use unreserved seating. Check the listing for your chosen date, ticket options and total cost; concessions are not available for every performance or screening.
For family-friendly events, a limited number of free babes-in-arms tickets are available for children aged 12 months and under sharing a seat with their carer. Call Box Office to check eligibility and book in advance. This does not mean the event itself is aimed at babies.
Baby Friendly screenings are designed for parents and carers attending with a baby, with lower sound, low lighting and a relaxed attitude to noise and movement. The film may be chosen for the adults. Check its listing for baby ticket arrangements; children over 12 months need a paid ticket.

Head for Campus Central for the main entrance and Box Office. There are also doors near Haldanes beside the loch. Buses stop at the University Bus Hub; follow the Macrobert signs and allow time for the walk to the building.
The venue is accessible for prams and pushchairs, with a parking bay opposite the bar. Mainhouse and Playhouse have a ramp or three stairs; ask Box Office about the route to your seat or wheelchair space.
Blue Badge parking is free, but register your vehicle with the university Car Parking Office on 01786 466065 in advance. Check the current drop-off route before travelling: Queen’s Court is closed to through traffic and the venue directs drivers to East Link Road.

The kiosk beside Box Office is useful for drinks and confectionery. If you want a meal at Backstage Bar & Kitchen, check its opening hours for your date. Allow for that around the event rather than relying on finding lunch between arrival and the start.
Accessible toilets are in the Upper Foyer, Playhouse Foyer and at the Haldanes entrance. Filmhouse booster cushions are available on request.
Free sensory backpacks with ear defenders and sensory toys are available from Box Office without advance booking. Relaxed cinema screenings use lower sound and lighting and have no adverts or trailers. Check the programme for a labelled relaxed screening; ordinary screenings do not promise those adjustments.

Use your event's running time to decide how much else to fit in. You could add food or a walk around the university grounds in dry weather, but heading home afterwards is also a perfectly good plan with a tired child.
Stirling Castle is a different outing nearby if your child would rather move around at their own pace. Treat it as a separate visit to plan, with its own tickets and walking, rather than an automatic extra after a show.
