Quarry Wood
Pine and oak woodland paths explore old sandstone quarries where prehistoric reptile fossils were found. Families can combine a woodland walk with the story of animals that lived here before the dinosaurs; the fossils themselves are displayed in Elgin Museum.
Before you go
The full three-mile Elginia Trail is moderate, with uneven or muddy ground, roots, fairly steep slopes and a narrow opening. Shorter informal paths also enter the oakwood from Elgin. Parking charges apply at Leggat; toilets and refreshments are in nearby towns. Check for ticks after your visit and remove them promptly.
