Discovery Point is built around RRS Discovery, the historic ship linked with Dundee's shipyards and Antarctic exploration. Families get both indoor museum galleries and time aboard the ship, which makes it more memorable than a gallery-only visit — but the ship needs more planning if you have a pram, wheelchair or very young children.
Best for Families who like real ships, exploration stories and Dundee heritage, especially if stairs and exposed deck areas are manageable

Visit for the chance to connect the museum story with the real RRS Discovery. The appeal is not just reading about exploration, but seeing the ship and understanding why it matters to Dundee's waterfront history. It works best when the ship itself is the hook for your child; if stairs, exposed decks or lower-deck access will dominate the day, treat the museum galleries as the easier part of the visit.
What children experience
Families can move from the museum galleries to the real RRS Discovery, giving children a more concrete sense of the ship, the expedition story and Dundee's maritime heritage.
Ship access
The museum galleries are the easier part. The main deck can be ramped, but the bridge and lower decks involve narrow stairs and changes in level.
Weather and layers
Part of the ship visit is exposed, and temperatures can vary on board. Bring layers if the forecast is mixed or you are visiting with young children.
