Dundee Science Centre
Dundee Science Centre is a hands-on indoor visit where children can press, build, test and find out what happens. A timed ticket gives you 2 hours 30 minutes on the exhibition floor, with Café Create there for a break. It works well as a rainy-day half-day, especially for preschool and primary-age children who like trying things for themselves.

Our family take
Choose this for children who want to press, build and find out what happens. Younger ones have water play, a treehouse and a building area, while optical illusions and human-body exhibits give older siblings more to try. Book a session you can enjoy without rushing; a free Dundee museum is an easier choice if you need to drop in and leave whenever you like.

Make it work for your family
What children will enjoy
Children can invent with pipes and cogs, try optical illusions, create animations, experiment with water and tackle building challenges. Medical Marvels and the Teddy Bear Hospital add a human-body and role-play element upstairs.
For younger children, We Are Exploring has the Midnight Garden treehouse and slide, a building area and water play. Preschool and primary-age children are the best all-round fit, but toddlers who enjoy these activities have things to try too. Older children are more likely to enjoy the visit if optical illusions, engineering or the human body interest them.
Booking, parking and arrival
Reception tickets are sold when there is room, but busy weekends and school holidays can fill up. Pre-booking secures your arrival time; turning up later in the day can leave you less time before closing.
Children under 16 must stay with a paying adult. Child tickets need to be booked with at least one adult, senior or student ticket.
There are two street-level Dundee City Council car parks beside the building. They charge standard city-centre rates, Blue Badge holders park free, and spaces cannot be reserved. Dundee station is only a few minutes’ walk away if you would rather avoid city-centre parking.
Access, sensory support and buggies
The centre has level access, a lift between floors and exhibits designed with wheelchair users in mind. Café Create has room for strollers and accessible seating. If your buggy needs to stay beside your child through every exhibit, ask before booking.
The Sensory Zone and Sensory Garden offer different spaces to try. Sunday 10am–12:30pm sessions have dimmed lights, reduced noise and a quiet space, but they are not a promise of silence. Sensory backpacks are available to borrow at reception.
One carer per disabled visitor can enter free. Select the carer ticket when booking and bring documentation showing that you are a carer. For a particular access or sensory need, call 01382 228 800 or email staff@dundeesciencecentre.org.uk.
Food and baby facilities
Café Create has a child-friendly menu, highchairs, family seating and a free imaginative play area. There are options for different dietary needs, and you can bring a packed lunch to eat on site.
Toilets and baby changing are behind the café. The Changing Places toilet is on the ground floor near the rear of the exhibition; ask staff for access if you do not have a RADAR key.
Making a half-day of it
Keep half a day free for the visit, including any food break. The exhibition ticket allows 2 hours 30 minutes, so an unhurried session can be the main indoor part of your Dundee day. You can leave earlier if your child has had enough.
If everyone still has energy afterwards, add a waterfront stop. Avoid booking another attraction so close that you have to hurry through this one.
