Our family take
If your children are happiest stopping to watch cows, feeding animals and moving on when they are ready, there’s no need to rush them round. Toddlers, preschoolers and younger primary children have animals, a small play area and real tractors to climb into. Older children who want rides or lots of organised activities may prefer a different day out.
- Mostly outdoors. Choose another attraction if you need a dependable indoor plan, a large food offer or lots of mechanical rides.
- Natural ground. Uneven paths and wet weather can make pushing a buggy or wheelchair harder. Ask about your route before booking if access will decide the visit.
- Separate experiences. A Farm Day Ticket does not include the guided Highland Cow Experience, its trailer ride or seasonal lamb feeding.

- Seasonal opening
- The standard farm visit runs daily, April to October, 10am–5pm. Last entry is 3pm. Check the calendar for your date; winter experiences have separate arrangements.
- Tickets
- Farm Day Tickets include the walk, play area, a bag of animal feed and return farm entry for the rest of the season. Check current adult, child and family prices, including any fees, before paying. Under-1s are free; check the one-carer ticket terms if needed.
- Booking
- Walk-ins are welcome, but entry is not guaranteed during busy periods. Book ahead if the date matters. Tickets are non-refundable; check the date-change terms for your booking.Tickets & booking
- Food and facilities
- Bring a picnic if you want lunch. Tea, coffee, ice cream and light refreshments are available, along with toilets, an accessible toilet and baby changing.
- Parking and address
- Free parking close to the entrance, including accessible spaces. Jacksons at Jedburgh, Kersheugh, Jedburgh TD8 6QT. Follow the farm’s directions from the A68.
- Access
- Much of the farm is accessible with a buggy or wheelchair, but the walk follows natural, uneven ground. Contact Jacksons about your buggy, chair or mobility needs before booking.
- Spring visits
- Jacksons advises people who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant not to visit during lambing time in April and May. Read the farm’s current advice before booking a spring visit.

Make it work for your family
What the farm visit feels like
You can follow the paddocks in your own order, pausing at the sheep, goats, pigs and poultry as the children’s interest takes them. Keep hands-on Highland cow encounters for a supervised session; a day ticket lets you see the cows without booking that closer experience.
Allow at least two hours as a starting point, with longer for a picnic or repeated stops at the play area. There is no fixed session to rush through, but you need to finish by closing time.
Farm entry or a Highland Cow Experience?
Choosing an experience
Choose Farm Day Tickets for a self-guided visit with animals, feeding and outdoor play. The Highland Cow Experience adds a guided trailer tour and a supervised close encounter, so book that separately if meeting the cows up close is the reason for your trip.
Lamb feeding follows the farming calendar and needs a separate spring booking. Check what is running before promising it to the children; it is not a year-round part of farm entry.
Return visits
The Farm Day Ticket includes return farm entry for the rest of the season. That is most useful if you live nearby or are staying in the Borders; check how to use the return entry before planning another visit.
Prams, wheelchairs and quieter visits
Bring sturdy shoes or wellies for the natural paths. A buggy that copes with uneven ground may make the walk easier, especially after rain; accessible toilets do not mean every route will suit every wheelchair.
Afternoons can be quieter, though this varies with the season. Expect farm smells, animal noises and occasional moving farm vehicles. If your child needs a slower introduction to the animals, ask the team about a quieter time before booking.
Picnics, handwashing and dogs
A packed lunch lets you stay without relying on the small shop for a full meal. Wash hands after touching animals and before eating.
Pet dogs cannot go into the main attraction; there is a dog-friendly picnic area at the entrance. Contact Jacksons about assistance-dog arrangements if these will affect your visit.
Getting to the farm
From the A68 near Jedburgh, take the turn signposted Mossburnford and Dolphinston, then follow the farm signs. Use the directions on the official contact page for the final approach.
If you are travelling without a car, arrange the last part of the journey before setting off. Ask the farm about local taxi options rather than counting on a bus to the entrance.
