Pittencrieff Park
Pittencrieff Park is an easy place to spend a few hours outdoors in Dunfermline, with play areas, peacocks and woodland walks. Start at Pittencrieff Street for parking and the largest play area; the café offers a break from rain, but this is still an outdoor day.

Our family take
Pittencrieff Park works well when the children want playground time and you want room to walk between stops. Keep it to a shorter play visit, or allow a few hours for the gardens, peacocks and woodland. The Pittencrieff Street entrance makes the simplest start by car.
- Mostly outdoors. The glasshouses and Pittencrieff House are closed. Choose an indoor outing if you need several hours out of the rain.

- Use the Pittencrieff Street entrance if you want the main free car park, the biggest play area, and the shortest route to the Glen Pavilion.

- The main free car park is at the Pittencrieff Street entrance, with limited additional parking behind and west of the Glen Pavilion plus disabled parking behind the pavilion.

- Allow around 2-4 hours for play and a walk, or keep it to a shorter playground stop.

- Lily Pond toilets: 9am-5pm, with baby changing and an accessible toilet. Closed 25-26 December and 1-2 January. Bring a RADAR key for the accessible toilet.

Make it work for your family
Play areas and peacocks
Children can spend their time on the swings, chutes, climbing frames and roundabouts, with gardens and historic landmarks to walk between when they want a change. There are two play areas between Pittencrieff Street and the Glen Pavilion, and a third at the Nethertown entrance.
The inclusive play area was designed with wheelchair swings, a wheelchair roundabout and sensory equipment. If you are coming for a particular piece of equipment, check with the park that it is available before travelling.
You may spot the resident peacocks as you walk. The volunteer-run sanctuary opens on Saturdays and Sundays, 11am-3pm; check its latest update before making a special trip.
Prams and getting around
The park includes a lower glen beside the Tower Burn, so do not assume every entrance or woodland path offers the same easy route with wheels. Start near the play areas if you want a shorter outing, and ask the park for a suitable route if steps or gradients would prevent your visit.
The Lily Pond toilets have level access. Bring a RADAR key if you need the accessible toilet. Keep children close beside the burn and pond.
Food and wet-weather plans
Bring a picnic or eat at the Peacock Rooms in the Glen Pavilion. The café has indoor seating and a children’s play space, plus terrace seating in good weather. Summer hours are 10am-4.30pm daily, with a 3pm close in winter; hot food finishes half an hour before closing. Check the seasonal hours if you are arriving late for lunch.
The glasshouses are closed until further notice, and Pittencrieff House is also closed to the public. The café gives you somewhere to sit out a shower when it is open.
Arriving without a car
From the town centre, use the Louise Carnegie Gates at the bottom of the High Street. Dunfermline bus station is about a five-minute walk from these gates, and local buses stop on Pittencrieff Street and Moodie Street. Check the current service for your chosen entrance.
