Our family take
Choose it for a lively indoor swim with flumes, waves and water play. Cove Island gives younger children a gentler place to splash, while older children get more from the bigger flumes once they meet both the age and height limits.
- Flume limits. Tornado Tantrum and the larger Storm Chaser flume require users to be at least eight and 1.2m tall. The smaller flume is for ages four and over with an adult.
- Adult ratios. Under-fours need one adult each; ages four to seven need one adult for every two children.
- Check what's open. The purple Thunder flume and tipping bucket are currently closed.

Make it work for your family
Young children and flume limits
Children under eight need a responsible person aged 16 or over with them. One adult can accompany one child under four or two children aged four to seven. Ask the centre about mixed-age groups if those rules do not clearly cover your family.
Tornado Tantrum and the larger Storm Chaser flume require both a minimum age of eight and a height of 1.2m. The smaller flume is for children aged four and over with an adult. Younger children can splash at Cove Island without meeting the bigger flumes’ limits.
What the waterpark is like
The waterpark has a wave pool, flumes and Riptide River, a lazy river with a rapid ending. Cove Island is the sheltered area for younger children who want a gentler splash.
The purple Thunder flume and tipping bucket are currently closed. Check the latest feature notices before promising a favourite. The centre also has a separate 25m pool with its own timetable; choose a waterpark session for the flumes and water play.
Booking, lockers and arrival
Book through the Active NL app, online or by phone on 01236 812679. The person making the booking is automatically included: for a family of four, add three more spaces. If that person is not swimming, remove them from the booking.
Bring a refundable £1 coin for the locker, even though reception payments are cashless. Pay by card or phone wallet. Arrive five minutes before your slot and bring a dry layer for the outdoor queue.
The booking listings describe a 90-minute waterpark session. The shorter time window beside a slot is for entry, so check the session details and leave time for changing afterwards. Bookings can be cancelled or moved up to 24 hours before the start; short-notice cancellations are not refunded.
Food, changing and access
There is a café on the main pool gallery. Its published hours start at 4pm on weekdays and 10am at weekends, so check food service if you are swimming earlier during the school holidays.
Children wearing swim nappies must have swimwear over the nappy. Everyone must change into swimwear in the changing rooms and shower before entering the pools.
The centre has lifts, but contact it before paying if you need a particular changing setup, accessible toilets, a pool hoist or somewhere to leave a buggy. Ask about the facilities and support you will need for the waterpark session.
When another visit would suit you better
A quieter pool may suit your family better if they dislike lively water play, cannot use the flumes they are hoping for, or you do not have enough accompanying adults for the younger children. This is a swim-session outing, with time for changing and a snack afterwards, rather than a full day out.
For an indoor play session without swimming, Wains World in Coatbridge is a nearby alternative. Treat it as another choice for the day rather than something you need to fit in after the waterpark.
